JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after stabbing his pregnant girlfriend in the chest with a butcher knife, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said they responded just after 5:30 a.m. to a Jacksonville home where they found Markus Powell outside, and inside his 24-year-old girlfriend, who was being treated by Fire Rescue for her wounds.

The victim's mother, who also lives in the home, told police that she woke up and heard "screeching" coming from the her daughter's bedroom.
She then went into the room, where she found the victim lying on the bed and Powell on top of her, stabbing her in the chest multiple times, according to the arrest report.
The woman was taken to UF Heath with non-life-threatening injuries.
Powell was arrested and booked into the Duval County Jail.
