Officers said they responded just after 5:30 a.m. to a call reporting a physical altercation, possibly involving a young child, on Schooner Court.

When they arrived, police said they found Kelly, who had visible injuries, standing at the door of an apartment. Due to a child being involved, police said they entered the apartment and confronted Wilson, who had visible injuries to his face.

Officers then found a 5-month-old baby inside the apartment, where there was narcotics and items "related to illegal drug activity within plain view," according to the Police Department.

After the man and woman were taken to the St. Johns County Jail, police said they turned over custody of the baby to a family member.

When the family member arrived at the apartment, she and an officer went inside the baby's room to get to diapers and other necessities for the child.

The officer said he spotted two pounds of marijuana in an open diaper box inside the child's nursery. The Police Department said it then obtained a search warrant, which led to the discovery of more narcotics and drug paraphernalia spread throughout the apartment.

The Department of Children and Families was called to investigate.

Additional charges are pending, according to the Police Department.
