Plans for East San Marco project on hold

Deal with developer that would bring Publix to area still stalled

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Don’t look to do your grocery shopping at the long-awaited Publix in San Marco anytime soon.

Plans to develop the land at the corner of Atlantic and Hendricks are on hold.  The project developer, ArchCo Residential of Atlanta didn’t move forward with the purchase. The deal was set to close in mid-March.

Regency Centers in Jacksonville owns the parcel of land. Eric Davidson, communications manager with the company, confirms the deal is on hold.

There have been a number of delays over the past 10 years.

“It looks like a little delay in the process,” Davidson said. "It's the nature of the business."

He confirmed the deal is “still very active” and Regency Centers and ArchCo are talking.

In addition to Publix the development was also going to include 239 residential units, retail space and a six-story parking garage.

No word when the project will move forward.
