YULEE, Fla. – A Yulee woman was arrested Sunday after leaving her three young children in a hot car for nearly 30 minutes while she visited her husband in jail, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office said.

Alison Johnson, 29, faces three counts of child neglect.

At 9:21 a.m., deputies said, Johnson left her three children, between the ages of 1 and 3, inside a black car that was not running with a passenger side front door window cracked about 1 1/2 inches while she went inside the Nassau County Jail to visit her husband.

A corporal spotted the children inside the locked car, noticing that the children were strapped in car seats that weren't buckled properly, according to the arrest report.

Deputies said the children were in the vehicle from 9:21 a.m. until 9:49 a.m. -- a total of 28 minutes.

During that time, deputies said, the temperature inside the car ranged from 91 degrees in the back seat area to 131 degrees in the front seat area.

Fire Rescue was called to evaluate the children and found them to be in good condition, the arrest report said.

Johnson told deputies that she left her children in the car because she didn't think they were allowed inside the jail, the Sheriff's Office said.

She was booked into the Nassau County Jail, but has since posted $30,000 bond, jail records show.

The Department of Children and Families told News4Jax that it could not comment on the case.
