Armed 'career criminal' sentenced to 15 years in prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Miami man arrested outside a Value Pawn in Jacksonville in 2015 was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Andrew Jones, 37, was arrested Sept. 29, 2015, in Jacksonville after officers discovered that the vehicle in which he was a passenger had been reported stolen in an armed carjacking, according to court documents

Jones was found to be in possession of a revolver, which is against the law for him because he has multiple prior felony convictions, including armed robbery, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and multiple drug offenses.

The  case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
