Man caught stealing liquor from Venue, police say

Man had $600 liquor in plastic trash can

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 46-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after he broke into a bar and stole hundreds of dollars worth of liquor, the Gainesville Police Department said.

Officers said they saw Carl Harrison scurrying across University Avenue while trying to hide the contents of a plastic trash can he was carrying around 4:30 a.m.

When police confronted Harrison he placed the trash can, which had roughly $600 of stolen liquor in it, on the ground and ran eastbound, officers said.

Harrison was caught by police in front of the County Administration Building still holding a bottle of tequila, a screwdriver and a crack pipe, officials said.

Police said their investigation revealed that Harrison broke into the Venue through double-doors on the east side of the building. Once inside, he raided the liquor storage room, grabbing whatever he could carry in the trash can.
