Deputies: Sheriff's Office helicopter crashes while assisting Forest Service

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County Sheriff's Office helicopter that was assisting the Florida Forest Service and Marion County Fire Rescue with water buckets on Tuesday evening crashed near Highway 315 and 212th Lane in Fort McCoy, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said another of its helicopters was called to help locate the pilot.

Deputies said the pilot of the helicopter was found walking around and talking after the crash. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

No other details were immediately released.

Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.
