JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A diesel leak from a commercial truck  forced authorities to completely shut down State Road A1A west of Wonderwood Drive on Wednesday.

Police said officers arrived about 11:25 a.m. and found a tractor trailer with a ruptured hull.

Officers said the truck driver tried to make a U-turn at the curve of A1A, causing the tractor-trailer to hit the road.

The crash spilled 50 gallons of diesel fuel onto SR A1A.

Officials said that no storm drains or waterways were affected, and cleanup efforts were underway.

Traffic was detoured through Mayport Naval Station at Wonderwood Drive until the spill was cleaned up.

Two Class C Wreckers were dispatched to the scene to move the damaged tractor truck, and environmental authorities assessed the roadway for safe travel.
