Annual Shrimp Festival runs through Sunday

Live music, contests, fireworks and plenty of shrimp


AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – The 54th annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival runs Friday through Sunday on Amelia Island.

The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with opening ceremonies followed by the Miss Shrimp Festival 2017 scholarship pageant. The annual pirate parade and the "Invasion of the Pirates" continue the first evening of events. Music and fireworks cap off Friday's schedule. A kids fun zone will be open all three days.

On Saturday, another "Invasion of the Pirates is scheduled for noon. Among the musical acts scheduled for Saturday, Joe Buchard, formerly of Blue Oyster Cult, Alex Ligertwood, previously of Santana and former lead singer of Kool & the Gang, Skip Martin perform.

Sunday's schedule inlcudes the annual blessing of the fleet and laying of the wreath at 1:30 p.m. The Swingin' Medallions play at 2:30 p.m. the first of two sets.The final day's activities run until 5 p.m. 

But of course, the star of the show, as always, will be the shrimp. Vendors will sell all manner of shrimp dishes to celebrate the shrimp industry that has provided a significant
