ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning on a federal violation of probation warrant out of Virginia for manufacturing methamphetamine after he ran off during a traffic stop Wednesday, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

Michael Edward Green, of St. Johns County, was taken into custody Friday at a home on Neal Road in St. Augustine after a short standoff, deputies said.

He was a passenger in a pickup truck that deputies spotted early Wednesday morning at a construction site on Dobbs Cutoff Road, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the pickup took off, deputies said, but stopped shortly after at the intersection of State Road 312 and State Road 207, where Green jumped out and ran off into a woods.

A Sheriff's Office K-9 team and helicopter were called to search the wooded area, deputies said, but were unable to find Green.

Investigators said they later learned that Green was hiding in a home on Neal Road.

Deputies responded to the residence about 1:30 a.m. Friday, and Green eventually came out after being asked several times to exit the home, the Sheriff's Office said.

Green was then turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said additional charges are pending further investigation.
