Who's making brownies? Bear wants to know

Connecticut home gets unwelcome visitor; neighbor tapes ordeal

AVON, Conn. – It wasn’t Goldilocks, but a bear who tried to break into a Connecticut house while the homeowner made brownies.

A neighbor was filming as the bear got up on the back porch and slammed on the woman’s back door, pressing its paws up against the glass.

“We have a bear attempting to get into a house, and he’s not afraid of noise, screaming or yelling or pounding,” said Bob Belfiore, the neighbor who rushed to help the woman who lives across the street.

The bear is captured on camera making its way onto the deck’s railing, standing up and peering inside the home.

“Though it looks cute on the railing, this bear was angry about not being able to get at the food,” Belfiore said.

At one point, the animal opened the screen door, but it couldn’t manage to open the glass sliding door. Still, the bear was persistent.

“He actually left the kitchen area and went to a second set of doors off the deck and tried those -- and then went to a third set of doors into the living room and attempted to get into those,” Belfiore said.

Police in the Connecticut town of Avon responded to the home after receiving the 911 calls. But the bear had already left the area.

The ordeal was scary, and Belfiore said he hopes nothing like this happens in the neighborhood again.

“It was a rather harrowing experience, although it looks cute in the photos,” Belfiore said.
