INDIANTOWN, Fla. – Martin County Sheriff's Office detectives are searching for whoever broke into a food store and gouged out the eyes of an alligator on the property, WPLG reports.
The incident was reported earlier this week at Del Monte Foods on Southwest Kanner Highway in Indiantown.
Detectives said the vandals kicked out a metal panel in a door, cut an electrical outlet, removed a fire extinguisher from the outside barn and sprayed foam on a large piece of farm equipment. They also turned on the outdoor water faucets, causing flooding near the entrance, and wrote graffiti on portable toilets.
But the vandals weren't done yet. They also blinded a 4-foot gator that they found on the property, gouging out the reptile's eyes with an unknown object.
The gator, which also had cut marks on its back, had to be euthanized because of the injuries.
Anyone with information is asked to call the agricultural crimes unit of the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
