Mother of Landing shooting victim facing theft charges

Monifa Peterson accused of stealing clothing

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The mother of the teen who was shot and killed at the Landing this year is now facing charges after a theft at the St. Augustine outlets.

According to the St. Johns County sheriffs office, Monifa Peterson and Wyketta Casey were stopped Friday afternoon, moments after a theft from the Calvin Klein store.

Two women were seen on surveillance video running off with more than $700 in clothing. An additional $250 worth of clothes that had been stoles from American Eagle were also found in Peterson's car, as was a small amount of marijuana.

The women were not arrested. The case is being reviewed by the state attorney's office.

Petersen's son Khamoi was shot and killed in January outside the Landing.

It was ruled a justifiable homicide because Petersen had pulled a gun on the teen who shot him
