Trio charged in attempted armed robbery at motel, Palatka police say

Motel guest says man asked him if he wanted to buy some marijuana

PALATKA, Fla. – Three people have been charged after an attempted armed robbery at a motel early Wednesday, the Palatka Police Department said.

Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to the Budget Inn at 100 Moseley Ave.

Police said a guest at the motel said he answered a knock at his door, where he was encountered by two men. The guest told police one of the men asked him if he wanted to buy some marijuana.

One man had his face covered with a mask and was armed with a handgun, police said. The guest quickly slammed the door, and the two men fled the parking lot in a gold-colored vehicle.

Police said officers saw the vehicle leaving the motel and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop, and officers pursued the vehicle, until it stopped at the intersection of 11th and Main streets.

Three occupants were detained. Police said the victim identified one of the men in the car as being involved in the attempted robbery.

A loaded handgun, two masks and marijuana were found in the vehicle, police said.

Clifton Maxwell, 24, Dominique Davis, 24, and Rashad Knight, 25, all of Jacksonville, were charged with attempted armed robbery. Police said the three were booked into the Putnam County Jail.

The victim was not injured during the incident, police said.
