JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department evacuated residents at Oxford Hall Apartments Tuesday morning after a fire was reported.
According to JFRD, no injuries were reported in the fire on Dean Road but 14 people from six families were displaced.
"Everything's gone. That's the thing," said Eldin Rekic, who told News4Jax he got out of his apartment just in time. "When I came out, that's when it really went up in flames... just seconds before it. Right before the ceiling collapsed. My neighbor came out, and I came out, and we looked up, and that's when the flames came out of the attic through the hole. We just ran out."
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit. Roughly 60 firefighters responded to the fire, which took about 30 minutes to extinguish.
The fire appears to have started in the bedroom/bathroom area of an apartment.
