ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A crash involving two semitrucks and a car caused the closure of I-95 northbound lanes for about three hours Wednesday.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Jose Cordero, 79, was driving a Hyundai Elantra south at a high rate of speed and tried to pass a semi that was in the center lane, but lost control and swerved into the center lane, where the two vehicles collided.
Consequently, the semi, driven by Christopher Nolan, 64, hit the guardrail in the median, traveled into the northbound lanes and struck a second semi, driven by David McPheeters, troopers said.
The FHP said Cordero and Nolan were sent to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries. McPheeters was not injured.
