JSO: Man shoots, kills himself after hours-long standoff in Crystal Springs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A SWAT team was called Tuesday night to a Crystal Springs home, where an armed man barricaded himself inside and later shot and killed himself, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Just after 6:30 p.m., a woman who lives on Hamlet Terrace, just north of Crystal Springs Road, called police and told them her husband had been drinking and made threats to her, said JSO Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.

The woman also told police her husband has multiple guns inside the home.

At one point, her husband became violent and the woman retrieved the dogs got out of the home safely, Bujeda said.

SWAT officers and negotiators tried to make contact with the man, but were unable to, Bujeda said.

After several hours, officers went into the home and discovered the man dead. The last gunshot was heard at about 7 p.m. and that is when officers believe the man shot and killed himself, Bujeda said.

The man's name has not been released.
