The incident was reported about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kensington South apartments on SW 20th Avenue.

Police said the man knocked on the woman's door while turning the door handle, and the woman opened the door, believing her roommate was trying to come inside.

The man pushed his way inside the apartment and shut the door behind him as the woman tried to escape, police said.

The woman told police the man forced her to the floor while grabbing at her privates and ripped her clothes in the process. She said she grabbed his hair and fought back, and he ran out of the apartment.

Investigators said they were able to identify the man as Taylor after receiving a tip, and he was taken into custody Wednesday evening near the intersection of Tower and Archer roads.

Taylor was booked into the Alachua County Jail.
