JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new playground is coming to Murray Hill and parents will now have two options to choose from in the neighborhood.
Parents have been pushing for this because there is constant overcrowding at Murray Hill Playground off Kingsbury Street since the elementary school uses that park as well as rec sports teams.
The new playground will be built at Four Corners Park in Murray Hill off Lawnview Street.
Families who were at Murray Hill Playground said they couldn't be happier that Four Corners will soon have a playground.
“It's right there in the middle of the neighborhood. I don't think it will be too packed honestly. I think it would be a great alternative whenever this one is busy with school activities in the sports and everything,” said Sheri Payne, a Godmother.
Parents say there is nothing wrong with the current Murray Hill Playground. In fact, their kids love it, but found that it is often overcrowded in the afternoons.
This is the playground that the school uses and then because of all the baseball field they do all the sports and things like that,” said Payne.
Parents say they are happy things are moving forward with this playground and there will be additional options for their kids since their neighborhood really needs safe places for the kids to simply be kids.
“Having a park where we have more room to play is great,” said Erin Stuckey, a mother of two.
The estimated cost of the playground is $60,000, which is funded by District 14 bond funds. It will begin construction in a few weeks.
