Troopers are investigating why the man was in the roadway.

He was in the center lane on I-95 northbound when he was hit, FHP said.

The incident caused significant traffic delays for several hours on the northbound side of the interstate, forcing officials to divert traffic to Dunn Avenue. Traffic reopened at 10 a.m., officials said.

FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan said the incident demonstrates the importance of move over laws. Since walking on the interstate is illegal, Bryan said drivers should immediately call police if they see someone walking on the interstate.

Troopers have not released the pedestrian's name, because his family has not yet been notified.
