JSO: Man shot 3 times in robbery attempt

Victim was sitting in vehicle when masked gunman approached

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man was shot multiple times in a robbery attempt Thursday night in the Hogans Creek neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

According to JSO Lt. John Lamb, officers were called about 9:45 p.m. to 17th Street and Jupiter Avenue. Investigators determined two men were sitting in their vehicle, when a masked gunman approached them and said, "give it up."

Lamb said the gunman then shot the victim, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle, three times. The victim was shot in the hand, abdomen, and leg. Lamb said the gunman then ran away. 

The victim's cousin, who was the second person in the vehicle, drove to UF Health. The victim is expected to recover from the injuries, which are described as non-life-threatening. 

Detectives said the victim and witness are cooperating. They told investigators they could not identify the shooter.

Lamb said officers canvassed the area for the shooter, but did not find him. They hope to find evidence at the scene that could identify him.
