Deputies: Fireman, girlfriend arrested after fight in Yulee

He threw her in pool, she threw karaoke machine at him, deputies say

YULEE, Fla. – A Jacksonville fireman and his girlfriend were arrested Tuesday night after a scuffle that included the girlfriend being thrown into a pool and a karaoke machine being thrown at the fireman, according to Nassau County deputies.

Ashlee James, 31, told deputies that she and Cleve Hoppper II, 32, were drinking Monday night and got into an argument at his home in Yulee.

James said she grabbed a knife and went into the yard, intending to slash the swimming pool.

Hopper tried to stop her and picked her up and threw her into the pool, deputies said.

When he tried to get the knife away from James, she received a cut on the hand, deputies said.

The argument continued into the house, where James threw a karaoke machine at Hopper, deputies said.

She’s charged with aggravated assault, a felony. He’s charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor.  Both were booked into the Nassau County Jail.

Hopper has been with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue for about 10 years. He’s been decorated several times, including once for a house fire rescue.

JFR officials said they are aware of Hopper’s arrest but have not issued a statement.
