State driver database issues resolved

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' driver database system experienced problems Monday, causing delays for some people attempting to register vehicles.

The department said driver licenses, title transactions, and license-plate orders were not affected, and the system appeared to be back to normal Tuesday.

The issue that caused the delays Monday was related to modernizing the database that holds driver information.

Agency spokeswoman Beth Frady said the previous database was decades old, and a migration to a new cloud-based system took place last weekend.

“Our systems are available,” Frady said. “They are operating at a higher speed than they had under the previous platform. We are open for business, serving customers as we had planned.”

Frady said the new system will be faster and more secure than the previous database.
