JSO traps alligator blocking Baymeadows Road

Animal taken safely to nearby pond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Officers followed a subject down Baymeadows Road on Sunday, collaborated to contain him and then brought him to a safe place -- a nearby pond, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

In case you’re scratching your head right now and wondering, “Why a pond?,” it’s probably an appropriate time to tell you that the “subject” police were pursuing was an alligator.

JSO officers posted photos and a video of the incident on social media Monday, following the bizarre “pursuit.”

“He knows where he’s going!” one officer is heard saying with a laugh as officials trailed the animal.

After receiving a call reporting the gator, the officers teamed up, used a ratchet strap and took the alligator to the pond.

“A little quick thinking and ingenuity and the gator was taken to a safe place,” police said.
