Clay Electric: Outage caused by damage from previous lightning strike

Nearly 16,600 Clay Electric customers have power back

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Clay Electric quickly restored power to thousands of customers Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:30 p.m., the utility reported that 16,600 customers were without electricity.

The outage was around a substation along Blanding Boulevard near Orange Park.

Just after 4 p.m., all but nine customers had their power back on.

Clay Electric told News4Jax that the outage was caused by damage done to a transmission line by a previous lightning strike.
