Man indicted on federal drug charges after Florida overdose death

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of dealing synthetic drugs online that caused an overdose death in Florida has been indicted on federal charges, the Justice Department said Thursday.

Jeremy Achey, 43, of Bethlehem, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of controlled substance analogues, federal prosecutors said.

According to court documents, Achey went by the moniker "Etiking" online and operated under the cloak of an encrypted browser. Prosecutors said he sold a substance similar to fentanyl, a highly-addictive opioid.

In February, someone in Orange County overdosed and died after ingesting a substance that prosecutors said was purchased from "Etiking" over the internet.

Achey faces up to life in prison if convicted of all counts.
