JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A News York man is now in JSO custody after investigators say he committed multiple cybercrimes on a female juvenile in Jacksonville.
Singh Manavjit, 25, was arrested on charges of extortion, aggravated stalking, and possessing child pornography.
This all began two years ago when a Jacksonville girl met the much older suspect on a Teen Chat website.
Police say during that time frame, the suspect convinced the girl to send nude pics of herself, but he wanted more.
Manavjit of Floral Park New York is in deep trouble. According to a six page arrest affidavit, he met an underage Jacksonville girl on a teen chat website where he convinced the girl to send him 25 nude pictures of herself. News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith says potential online predators quickly figure out how to lure minors.
“It probably started out with very easy and casual conversation. Probably no sexual conversation at all," Smith said. "Then as the child becomes comfortable with him, that’s when they make their move."
According to the affidavit, the girl eventually became uneasy about the pictures as Manavjit keep demanding more and threatening the girl by saying he would leak her previous nude photos to her family if she didn’t comply. The girl got scared by his demands so she told her sister who called police. Investigators say Manavijt eventually posted her nude pictures to relative’s Facebook pages. Smith says this is an example of how sending nude pics to online strangers can come back to haunt children. He also says this is a case in which the girl could also face charges.
“It’s important for children to understand that even if they are sending nude photos to someone or nude photos of someone else, that could be a third degree felony, so even though this child appears to be a victim, they can also be charged for sending that out over the internet,” Smith said.
According to police, the suspect also threatened the girl by telling her he would kill her entire family if she didn’t send more nude pictures of herself. He now sits in jail on a $450,000 bond.
