JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police on Thursday arrested a 59-year-old man accused of beating a child after learning the child had skipped school that day, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Larry Boyance is charged with child abuse.

According to his arrest report, Boyance beat the child with a wooden paddle, and responded officers noticed  a softball-sized bruise on the child’s leg and bruising on the child’s buttocks.

Boyance was booked into the Duval County Jail, but was released Friday after posting $15,000 bond.
