ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A body found Tuesday night in Newnans Lake by divers with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office has been identified, deputies said.

The sheriff's office asked for prayers for the family after identifying the person found as 65-year-old Alphonso Williams.

Art Forgey with the Sheriff's Office told News4Jax that deputies started getting calls just before 11 a.m. about a small, unoccupied boat circling around Newnans Lake, just east of Gainesville.

The boat was later recovered, but no one was on board, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continued to search the lake.

Deputies said Williams' body was recovered from the lake about 7 p.m.
