JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Amazon welcomed the first employees at its new fulfillment center on Jacksonville's Northside this week.
The more than 800,000-square-foot facility on Pecan Park Road greeted the first wave of new associates -- nearly 350 people -- by rolling out the “orange carpet” and high-fiving everyone as they came into the building.
The new employees celebrated the launch of the building with introductions from the facility’s leaders, Bernard Schmidt and Mike Bauer; a visit from Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville; meeting their team leaders; collecting Amazon swag; and signing the site's first Amazon robot.
News4Jax spoke with man as he was leaving work off the property Thursday night. He said inside the facility, there's a lot of high energy and a family-like environment.
The first item the Pecan Park fulfillment center received for inventory was a tactical portable powerlight. The first customer order shipped was a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
Amazon is still in the process of building its second Jacksonville fulfillment center in the Cecil Park Commerce Center.
