Woman slips off handcuffs, steals police SUV

33-year-old being held on several charges

A Texas woman who was initially arrested for shoplifting slipped out of her handcuffs in the back of a police SUV and ended up leading officers on high-speed chase.

Toscha Sponsler, 33, was detained by the Lufkin Police Saturday on suspicion of shoplifting and held in the back of an officer's SUV. While police were outside of the vehicle, Sponsler got out of her handcuffs and subsequently squeezed through a partition to reach the front seat. She drove the car for about 20 miles, reaching speeds of almost 100 mph, before police apprehended her.

Sponsler is now being in the Angelina County jail on several charges, including evading arrest.
