COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a head-on collision Sunday on State Road 247, troopers said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Ashley Nicole Purcell, 27, of Wellborn, was driving south on SR 247 in the northbound lane when for an unknown reason she collided head-on with a GMC Sierra driven by Haskell Wayne Overby, 69.

Troopers said neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
The FHP said Purcell was taken to Shands UF Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
Troopers said Overby was also taken to Shands UF, where he died of his injuries.
Charges are pending an investigation that is ongoing.
