Police: Woman robbed at gunpoint on NE 7th Avenue
Woman was riding bike to friend's house
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A woman riding her bike was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday near the intersection of Northeast 9th Street and Northeast 7th Avenue by a man wearing a black ski mask, the Gainesville Police Department said.
Police said they received a call at about 1 p.m. from an unidentified woman who said she was riding her bike to her friend’s house at about 2 a.m. when a man in a passing car asked her to come over.
When the woman rode over to the car, the man reportedly got out with a handgun and told her,
“Hey, I’m robbing you.” The woman told the man that she didn’t have any cash and that she would cancel her credit cards before they could use them, police said.
The woman told police the man then rifled through her fanny pack, told her, “You’re kind of cute” and slapped her on her butt before getting back into the car and driving off.
The woman said the suspect was driving a dark four-door car. She said the man has an average build and is about 6 feet, 1 inch tall. She said he was wearing a black ski mask, a black long-sleeve shirt and black pants.
The woman told police she delayed calling police because she was tired and just wanted to go to bed.
Investigators said they are looking into the report and are increasing overnight patrols in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
