Former council president Bill Bishop announces bid for City Council

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former mayoral candidate Bill Bishop announced his bid Tuesday for the 2019 City Council race.

Bishop, who lost in the 2015 mayoral race that was eventually won by Mayor Lenny Curry, is running for City Council At-Large Group 2 in the 2019 elections.

Bishop represented District 2 from 2007-2015 and was City Council president in the 2012-13 council year.

He filed as a Republican.

"My passion for our city is the same as it's always been. I know how council works and my past experience and leadership brings strength to the council body as a whole," Bishop said in a news release. "As we look to the future and prioritize the needs of our city, I'll focus on responsible use of taxpayers' dollars, infrastructure, land use and zoning, urban design, transportation and the importance of proper downtown development."

There’s one other candidate currently filed in that race, Ron Salem -- also a Republican.
