Police: Man arrested on drug charges after fight in convertible over Xanax

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A fight between two men in a convertible Thursday night led to one of them being arrested on drug charges, according to the St. Augustine Police Department.

Police said Jason Parlette is charged with felony narcotics possession and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Police said they were called to a Walgreens pharmacy on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. Thursday after two men were scene fighting inside a silver convertible in the parking lot.

Officers said Parlette had gotten out of the vehicle and was walking away when officers arrived.

After he was asked for identification, Parlette started searching his backpack for it and removed a bag of suspected marijuana, setting it on the ground in front of the officer, police said.

Parlette was arrested and a subsequent search revealed that he also had a Xanax pill.

The man Parlette had been fighting with in the convertible told police that Parlette went with him to pick up his prescriptions and that the fight began when Parlette tried to steal them.

The man declined to press charges regarding the battery or theft, but Parlette was arrested on the drug charges, police said.
