Suspect faces charges in connection with Central Florida woman's death

Scott Nelson charged with using victim's credit card, ID

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The first charges have been filed against Scott Nelson related to the disappearance and death of an Altamonte Springs woman, court records show.

Jennifer Fulford, 56, was reported missing by her Winter Park employer and later found dead in Orange County, WKMG reports.

Fulford was identified early on in the investigation as a person of interest and later a suspect, after video surveillance showed him using Fulford's debit card. He was captured Sept. 30 in Jacksonville last week.

On Friday, Winter Park police filed grand theft and credit card fraud charges against Nelson. He was already charged with violating his probation.

A motion was also filed Friday for a mental competency evaluation on Nelson. A federal judge granted that request.

The U.S. Probation Office's violation report will have helpful information about Nelson's mental health in the past 100 days, according to the motion.

Winter Park police suspect Nelson is behind Fulford's death. Police are now processing evidence that they collected from at least four crime scenes. They say analyzing all that evidence could take weeks.

Nelson is currently under observation in the Orange County Jail, records show.
