3 complain of injuries after Westside crash with patrol car

2 adults, child hospitalized; officers not injured

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries Saturday night after a police car pulled in front of a car at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Collins Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Two officers were in a patrol car at a red light waiting to turn left about 10 p.m. when they saw a traffic violation and wanted to pursue. The officer driving the patrol car turned on the emergency lights and drove into the intersection and into the path of a Volkswagen.

After the crash, the two adults and a child in the Volkswagen were taken to Orange Park Medical Center complaining about neck and back pain, officials said. The two officers in the patrol car were not hurt.

"It appears that the officer's probably going to be at fault because he did have a red light and did have the responsibility to make sure the road was clear," JSO Traffic Homicide Sgt. Donald Washington said.
