STARKE, Fla. – A missing Starke woman was found Wednesday afternoon in Levy County, authorities said.

A Silver Alert was issued for Elsie Keel after she was last seen in the area of North Orange Street and Legion Terrace in Starke, police said.

Keel left her residence on Legion Terrace about 9 a.m. Wednesday in a tan-colored 2004 Ford Taurus, police said.

According to the Police Department, an investigator later spotted the car, which had run out of gas, on the side of Highway 27 just outside Chiefland, ran the vehicle's tag and learned of the Silver Alert.

Levy County sheriff's deputies responded and found Keel, who was physically well, but was mentally disoriented, authorities said.

She was taken to North Florida Regional Center in Gainesville for further evaluation, police said.

Authorities said they then notified Keel's family, who was pleased she had been located.
