TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Rick Scott has directed the Florida Department of Transportation to determine if traffic can be improved for people who use Interstate 75 to evacuate future hurricanes.

Scott wants the department to look at the interstate, from north of the interchange with Florida's Turnpike to the Georgia state line.

“This roadway is a major evacuation route, and it is crucial that residents and visitors can quickly and safely travel in this area during emergencies,” Scott said in a prepared statement.

The governor's office said a report from the department is due in January.
