Troopers said James Addison was driving his Nissan Frontier eastbound on I-10, veered off the roadway onto the shoulder for unknown reasons, overcorrected, spun and hit the rear bumper of a semi that was stopped in traffic.

Addison died at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

Troopers said crews were making emergency repairs to the road, which caused a lane to be closed and backed up the traffic that forced the semi to stop.

The lanes reopened by 11 a.m.
