Firefighters gear up for Fill the Boot campaign
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Association of Firefighters will be filling their boots on Thursday to Sunday to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Hundreds of firefighters will be out at all major intersections throughout Jacksonville over the three collection days to help raise money for MDA.
Capt. John Long said that local firefighters are proud to be joining forces with Muscular Dystrophy Association for the 63rd year to raise funds for Jacksonville children. The campaign entitled “Fill the Boot Drive” is synonymous with firefighters on local intersections with boots in their hands collecting funds.
All funds raised will help to provide research and services to families living with neuromuscular diseases in Jacksonville. Proceeds collected during this weekend go directly to children.
Jacksonville currently holds the number 2 spot in the state of Florida for firefighter collections raised for MDA, a stat that Jacksonville firefighters are truly proud of according to Chip George, MDA coordinator. George states that it costs $2000 for a child to attend camp. Their goal is to secure funding to send local children to MDA Summer Camp.
This year for the first time Jacksonville Association of Firefighters are taking their fundraising into the world of technology. If you aren’t out and about, you can also text JAFF to 50555 and make a secure donation to support MDA and the boot drive.
