Members of EVAC movement receive special treat on Halloween

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry made this Halloween special for some students at Robert E. Lee High School.

On Tuesday, Curry handed out Jaguars tickets to a group known as the EVAC movement. It's members are students who are making a brighter future for themselves.

The mayor said the program is something he would like to see expanded in other schools.

He said he also wants the group to talk to the leaders of his new Kids Hope Alliance. That board should be selected by the end of the year.

"They will be tasked with meeting with experts on what services we should be providing young people," Curry said.  "And I’m going to task, as part of that, to meet with these young men."

The mayor said the City Council must approve his board and he hopes to have candidates in place by the end of November.

EVAC is the word "cave" spelled backwards. For the students, it means getting out of the cave and back into life.
