FHP: Baby 'critical' after head-on crash in Palatka

Trooper say 13-year-old girl also suffered serious injuries

PALATKA, Fla. – An infant is in critical condition after a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Palatka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the driver of an SUV ran a red light at St. Johns Avenue and Moody Road and struck a car head-on.

A 3- to 4-month-old girl was being held by a 13-year-old girl in the front passenger seat of the car, and was not in a child restraint, troopers said.

The baby was flown to UF Health and the teenage girl suffered serious injuries, according to FHP.

Troopers said the woman driving the car and the SUV driver suffered less serious injuries.

The Highway Patrol said charges are pending.
