Concerns raised over Jacksonville Beach sidewalk

Police have since placed construction signs near hole in sidewalk

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A local bicyclist said he wants to see more done to keep people safe after he fell from his bike because of a big hole in a Jacksonville Beach sidewalk.

Evan Kelley told News4Jax on Thursday that he was biking on the sidewalk and didn't see the hole at the corner of Third Street and Second Avenue South.

Kelley said he fell and hurt his nose.

He's worried people who live in a nearby 55 and older community could get hurt, too.

"You have to look and see if you have the light. People were stopped here, that doesn't mean you can cross, so you have to look up here," Kelley said. "(In the) meantime, you have a hole and there's nothing here."

After News4Jax talked with Kelley, police were called and they put up construction signs and tape around the hole so people can see it a little better.

Officers told Kelley that they would keep an eye on it.
