Man and his dog killed by train while on walk in Murray Hill, JSO says

Train delayed as police investigate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man and his dog were struck by an Amtrak train and killed Sunday near Roosevelt Boulevard and South Edgewood Avenue, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Police said the crossing arms were down and the dog got spooked, possibly by the train horn, and ran back toward the track. The man ran after the dog and both of them were hit and killed, JSO officials said.

The Amtrak Train 52 was apparently traveling between Sanford, Florida, and Lorton, Virginia.

Police said passengers would be delayed a couple hours as they investigate.
