Jacksonville police: Man, 44, hit, killed on Atlantic Boulevard

Pedestrian identified as Donald Bayne Nettles

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday night on Atlantic Boulevard in the city's Woodland Acres neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

Police identified the pedestrian as Donald Bayne Nettles, 44, of Jacksonville Beach.

The crash was reported about 8:15 p.m. at Bowlan Street.

According to police, the man was crossing Atlantic Boulevard when he walked into the path of a vehicle traveling westbound and was hit. Witnesses told police that the vehicle had a green light.

Police said rescue crews rendered first aid and then transported the man to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, and the driver and passengers are cooperating with investigators, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Traffic homicide detectives continue to investigate.

According to the Sheriff's Office, this was the 39th vehicle vs. pedestrian fatality this year in Duval County.
