Family angry that driver who hit teen won't face state charges

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hit-and-run charges against a man accused of hitting 17-year-old while trying to escape police in May were dropped, but the driver has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges.

Marion Walker, 47, who was trying to get away from police at the time, was initially charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, reckless driving and trafficking in cocaine, but those state charges were dismissed when Walker pleaded guilty to federal charges.

Salama’s family told News4Jax the decision by state prosecutors not to pursue the case angered them and they will still try to get justice for the teen.
