JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s Hart Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday, the Florida Department of Transportation said.
Traffic trying to travel west will be detoured to Atlantic Boulevard, and signs will direct drivers to the Acosta Bridge and then to Broad Street.
Motorists attempting to take the Hart Bridge eastbound will be detoured to Jefferson Street and signs will direct traffic to the Acosta Bridge and Atlantic Boulevard.
The improvements to the Hart Bridge include the replacement of wire rope, coating of structural steel, drainage work and steel plate rehabilitation, the department said.
The $4.3 million project is expected to be completed in early 2018.,
The Hart Bridge was opened in 1967 to relieve traffic on the Main Street and Mathews bridges. The Hart Bridge is 3,844 feet long and spans 141 feet above the St. Johns River.
According to FDOT, about 51,500 vehicles travel the bridge daily.
