Man hit by shot fired into Westside home

Man taken to Orange Park Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries

JACKSONVILLE, FLa. – A 37-year-old man is expected to recover after he was shot early Friday morning inside his Westside Jacksonville home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. 

Police said the man was shot in the shoulder about 2:30 a.m. inside his residence on April Street, just off 103rd Street in the Jacksonville Heights neighborhood. 

Jacksonville Fire Rescue took the man to Orange Park Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released the man's name. 

The scene shows dozens of evidence markers in the street, but police did not release any information about how the shooting occurred and said they had no information about the gunman 

When the sun came up, several bullet holes were visible in siding of the mobile home and the SUV parked in the driveway.

"The prostitutes. The drug addicts. This has got to stop," a neighbor who wished to remain unnamed said. "Just like everybody wants to live in a nice neighborhood, I want to live in a nice neighborhood. We need protection too."
