FHP: Pedestrian seriously injured in crash on US 1 in Nassau County


NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year-old man is in serious condition after he was struck by a vehicle while walking across US 1 near Sauls Road in Nassau County on Thursday evening, troopers said.

It happened about 6:20 p.m. near Sauls Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the pedestrian crossed the road from east to west, directly in the path of a Nissan Maxima, driven by a 21-year-old man from Hillard, Florida.

The victim was struck by the front of the vehicle, troopers said.

The FHP said the 29-year-old pedestrian, from Fernandina Beach, was taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

Deputies said the driver and a passenger in the Nissan did not suffer any injuries.
